I knew David from his time at 4 Pump Court. He was one of those people in Chambers it was very easy to like. As we were contemporaries we ‘grew up’ together in Chambers as our respective practices developed. We took slightly different paths as David focused on construction, so I liked to call him a “brickie”, especially having regard to his Etonian background. Although our practices diverged we still did a lot together in Chambers, especially in respect of pupillage recruitment. We interviewed a large number of candidates; during this time we had many, many laughs together. He was easy to work with, and fun to be with, as well as charming to all of our interviewees. I was very sorry when he left 4 Pump Court, but I often saw him around the Temple, when we would always have a chat about life, and often his travels. I don’t think I ever had a conversation with him when we did not share a joke. I will miss him.
