Jamie 2nd February 2021

David and I had been colleagues for only a few years, but as neighbours up on the 2nd floor at 2 Crown Office Row, we quickly became good friends, sharing the ups and downs of our practices, often at ungodly hours. As I got to know him better, it was clear just how much David's family meant to him. He was a devoted dad, who spoke to me proudly of his children and he took the trouble to show an interest in my kids too, particularly my son's current experiences at his old school. We also shared sailing stories, but whereas for me boats are all that interest me, it was amazing how David had so many more interests, and in particular of course adventure. I am really sorry we wont get to share another BYC weekend. As other colleagues from Crown Office and from David's previous sets have said, he was incredibly generous with his time and effort on behalf of chambers, not to mention the small acts of kindness, which he kept up even when we were all separated by lockdown. I still cannot believe that on the Friday we had an email that he was happy to continue another stint as our much valued Deputy Head of Chambers, then on Sunday came the news of his passing. David was one of those colleagues that makes you look forward to coming back to Chambers after court and I will miss him greatly. I can scarcely imagine the sense of loss his family and loved ones will be feeling, to all of whom I send my deepest condolences for their loss of a great man. Jamie Clarke
